On Fri Busted to Oxford on the way up, killed it on the street. Many new freinds and smiles, a guest percussionist all the way from Brazil (check out his styles on the you tube tour vid very soon). Ate hot pasties, shot off to Milton Keynes for a spot of turmeric milk, some mighty samosas and to drop off the newbe. Full throtle through the night up the M1 (47mph) to the very comfortable Herbidacious Villa in Manchester which has become our home from home for the last 4 nights.

Saturday saw us hitting the streets of Leeds for some crazy concrete back chaffing break dancing busking mayhem and then on the the worlds cosiest venue for an up close and personal audience with King Porter Stomp. Best quote of the night goes to the guy from Totnes “Checked you guys out on the internet and saw a slick looking band, got ere and it turns out you’re just a bunch of f**king hippies!”. Wicked night, loadsa fun and reminded us of the good old days.

Sunday we clawed our way into Manchester Arndale centre, 4 miles as the crow flys, for a guerilla busk to a mammouth crowd. Foxy soxy, badger and the artful joller trumped their trunks in style and enlivened the hoards and brightoned the grey day. We got our groove over to Ashton under lyne in the evening for a festive knees up on the most adhesive stage in the business. The Witchwood pub hosted the line up for Mozfest after the council failed them, so big up to them and the Legend Herbidacious for grafting and making it all happen despite all the opposition.

Monday….sore heads….late start. Took a drive up the snake pass to check out the sneeeky peak district, an amble along the Lady Bower reservior and a stumble into a secret raspberry garden. Picking, eating, stained fingers, full bellies and berry pancakes tomoro morning. Swung by a shop in Glossop and the local scally wags shout “It’s that f**king band from town yesterday, he’s that f**king sick rapper!”. The word is spreading, we’re famous in the Peaks, just as well as that’s where we’re heading tommorrow….more soon x

King Porter crowned King of the Mountain.. What a tailspin of a week, that by the end had us playing a gig 2500m up a mountain. Here’s the first part of our journey.
Six started the journey in the KPS van heading out over land and undersea, a mere 841 miles from their destination. Some might say the traveling party were in high spirits and some what keen to reach their alpine goal, arriving at the Euro-tunnel 4 hours early, but this worked only in our favour in securing a carriage of our own to play the first under channel hacky sack championship… no one saw it coming we think its gonna be the next big thing. We’ve all ready had to put a restraining order on Sky Sports hassling us for full screening rights…… anyhow we were making good time and stocking up on enough cheese, wine and cured meet to last several life times trapped in the Austrian alps.
With the KPS van rolling strong over the great roads of Ray’s homeland and Ray’s list of what the french do better growing longer and longer we approached Germany and eventually the end of Ray’s list.
Now for certain legal reasons, parts of the KPS trip through Germany cannot be mentioned. The war can be mentioned but on this occasion was not. But we would like to take the chance to say Germany is a very lovely country. It’s country men, women and police force fine people, their laws fair and just and if they would like to let us back in at anytime to play a gig we promise to be good (some parts of this statement might not be fully truthful, though my signed statement was, honest).
Austria, a certain sense of freedom grew upon us as the shaded outlines of the mountains grew bolder and taller as the road made it’s way up and through the valleys into the alps. 23 hours of travel, the odor of very strong french cheese and a short pit stop in Germany had not dampened the spirits, the van was still going strong. The finish in sight 1500m up a long narrow winding road that made the road at the end of Italian job look like a 3 lane motorway. Slowly up the mountain and down the gears then 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 1st, 1st to 2nd up up round round up up then…… the look of horror on this poor woman’s face as the van rolled down her drive with 6 sleepless guys falling out the door was priceless. “Curfew at Ten, no noise after 10″ was our greeting. To be honest we were not listening, we were all far too taken aback with the view of the valley to hear anything. Truly breathtaking. When we had sucked up enough of the view to help stretch our lungs, legs and hearts, we set unloading the van, setting up the homestead and convincing the owner we were not a bunch of nutters. First half of the KPS party had arrived.
Just a little taster to get ya started.
More on the way tomorrow.
Big Love

We’ve done done it, up and running on the web at last. So I thought I would kick off the new King Porter blog by sending out Big Big LOVE to all those that came and stomped with us in rammed tents, open air stages and on sticky dance floors at the shows last summer. To all those that took us in, kept us warm and gave us stages to rock, much love and blessings and we can’t wait to come and do it all again next summer…but now the winter months have set in, the fields are once again empty of shuffling steps, but for the cows and sheep…. King Porter have retreated to the warmth of the studio and are busy working on tracks for the new album. Don’t forget to check out the sneak preview of “the last bat train to Cuba”. We filmed it on one of the boats out in Shoreham, thanks Hamish for letting us on board………. welcome to Jonezy cam, the close ups are a bit scary ahhh. There might even be a few more clips of the recording session popping up on the web page so keep your eye’s peeled……The Big Mac video is on it’s way too. Thanks to all those who came down to the level and helped us cause a bit of a fuss in McDonalds. A big big Shout out to all the moshers that helped us bring the house down at the Golden Lion up in Briz last month …boy what a night. Looking forward to heading back over and doing the same in 2010. ……….so as we await the arrival of the KPS baby boom, we are getting ourselves ready for our mini tour down the south west at the start of December, so look out for us heading your way in the new slightly wobbly 17 seater King Porter party bus. In which, on our last long drive back to Brighton, we found that if you play Curtis Mayfield’s Pusherman in a rain storm, with the wipers on the second setting, they move in perfect time to (pretty much) the whole the song. Ah yes those long late night drives home and the fun we have……till next time.

Keep the fire burning.

Well well well, KPS finally managed to save up enough pennies to book a recording studio. We managed to get a lovely little studio down in Cornwall called Propagation Studios ( it’s an old propagation house). Anyway we managed to lock ourselves away for 7 whole days in which time by working from the crack of dawn until the dawn chorus we managed to lay down 12 tracks. We now have the mammoth task of mixing them all down so that sound as sweet as possible, which will be overseen by Jamie Simmonds.

However we were so excited about what we got to tape that we have done a first mix of some of the songs so that you can all hear a little taste. We hope you like, and we look forward to offering you the finished album in September.

Peace
KPS
